 The Napa River

A saltwater Fly Fishing Experience in the heart of Wine Country
The seasons:
Much like Salmon or Steelhead, Striped bass are anadramous fish. They are born in freshwater rivers and migrate to the ocean to grow and mature.
We are able to target The Striped Bass 12 months out of the year, but there are two specific "runs" that we focus on.

First is the Fall Run (September-November), when the mature fish come back from their summer spent in the ocean. They come into the river in anticipation of "wintering-over" and completeing their spawning ritual in the Spring time. Fall offers some of the best and most consistent fishing if the weather and tides dictate.

The second main "run" is the Spring Run (End of March-May). This happens after the adult fish have completed their spawning ritual and they are on their way back out to the ocean where they spend the summer. The spring run has a short window and can be very productive if the water clarity and temperature are conducive to fly fishing.

Aside from the two main runs, the river has resident fish year round that do not follow this migration. This enables anglers to have great fishing oppurtunities throughout the rest of the year.

Napa River trips are geared towards the intermediate-advanced angler; with the intention that the client can cast proficiently, is comfortable in a boat & has a positive attitude!

Meet location:

Guided fly fishing trips on the Napa River typically start from Cuttings Wharf, a public boat launch located right off highway 121 between the cities of Sonoma and Napa. Cuttings Wharf provides ample parking for guests and no fee to launch or park.

A typical Napa River trip will start between 6:30-7AM. Although later starts are not uncommon if the tides dictate so.
