Lake Berryessa

Located 20 Mikes east of the city of Napa, Lake Berryessa is the largest freshwater impoundment in Napa county. At 576 sq. miles it provides ample opportunities to us as fly fishermen.
The lake is known throughout California as a prolific Largemouth Bass fishery but also has healthy populations of Smallmouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Crappie, Panfish and Rainbow Trout.

The Seasons:

Winter: December-February can be some of the most productive months on the lake if the correct approach is taken. The lake sees little boat traffic this time of year which makes for a relaxing experience.
Spring: March-May is the prime time to target large fish during pre/post spawn. Although the lake is busiest this time of year, exceptional fishing can occur all around the lake.
Tackle: On Lake Berryessa we use 7-8 wt fly rods with full floating lines or intermediate slow sinking for subsurface presentations.

Meet location:

Lake Berryessa Trips depart from Capell Cove Boat Launch on Knoxville rd. A typical lake trip will be depart at 7AM. There is a parking fee at Capell Cove so please bring money for parking.
