Lake Mendocino

Lake Mendocino is located in Ukiah, just outside the Anderson Valley; It is the headwaters of the Russian River.
Coyote Dam sits at the south end of the lake and the east branch of the Russian River comes in on the north end of the lake.

Target species are Largemouth bass, Smallmouth bass, catfish & panfish. The lake also has a small population of Striped Bass.

The Seasons:

Winter: December-February can be some of the most productive months on the lake if the correct approach is taken. The lake sees little boat traffic this time of year and makes for a fantastic winter trip.
Spring: March-May is the prime time to target large fish during pre/post spawn. Although the lake is busiest this time of year, exceptional fishing can occur all around the lake.
Tackle: On Lake Mendocino we use 5-6wt fly rods with full floating lines or intermediate slow sinking for subsurface presentations.

Meet location:

Lake Mendocino Trips depart from the Lake Mendocino South Boat Launch, located 10min East of hwy101 in Ukiah. A typical Lake Mendocino trip will depart the boat launch by 7AM. There is no fee to park at the facilities.
